BURNEY FALLS. McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is in Northern California between Mount Lassen and Mount Shasta. Here an underground aquifer flows year round through pourous volcanic rock to create this wall of waterfalls. The main falls are up and to the right but this detail shot was more interesting.
The challenge of shooting waterfalls is to use a shutter speed slow enough to capture the flow of water, but fast enough so there is still detail in the highlights of the falls. This photograph was shot with a 4x5 view camera with 210mm lens on color transparency film. I scanned the film and used Adobe Photoshop to adjust the final image.
